Barack Obama has achieved extraordinary political success in our country by pursuing an unapologetic bullying style — he breaks our laws and tramples our government and its institutions, but gives no apology, shows no remorse, and has no shame.
On the contrary, the more he destroys, the more he is emboldened, and it’s not hard to see why: he won re-election against Mitt Romney, a centrist Republican (Romneycare…) and an honest, successful man who loves his country. If you voted for Barack Obama, you gave him license to go right on being the Laszlo Toth of our time.
A pliant media has made it much easier for him to do his dirty deeds, but this week he lost a lot of cover as the Supreme Court unanimously ruled against his unconstitutional recess appointments. The most Liberal commentators lost their voices when even the Liberal Justices went against their man (a unanimous ruling — when does that happen?). Add to this John Boehner’s planned lawsuit against the president challenging his numerous illegal acts, and the would-be-king is increasingly surrounded by patriots who are saying “no more”.
And so now what can we expect from the man from Chicago by way of Indonesia?
Certainly not respect for democracy, for the Supreme Court, or for Congress.
President Barack Obama defiantly dared congressional Republicans on Tuesday to try to block his efforts to act on his own and bypass a divided Congress that has thwarted his policy initiatives.
“So sue me,” he taunted on a sweltering day, as he pushed lawmakers to pay for road and bridge repairs. “I’m not going to apologize for trying to do something.”
Obama struck an aggressive tone in the face of a lawsuit threat from House Speaker John Boehner and in the wake of two defeats before the Supreme Court, including a unanimous decision from the court that he overreached when he appointed members of the National Labor Relations Board while the Senate was in recess. <Yahoo news, link>
His arrogant response is noteworthy for several reasons.
First, it shows a man who is openly proud of his trampling of the Constitution and one who cares nothing for the sacred oath he swore upon assuming the office of the presidency:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
From this point of view, Barack Obama should consider himself lucky that the House of Representatives is only suing him and not impeaching him for repeated violations of his oath of office (let alone for using the IRS to target Republicans, and for the Benghazi cover up, and for the Fast and Furious cover up).
Second, it shows a man who is drunk on power to the point where he doesn’t realize when he has lost credibility even among his own allies. Obama’s Bowe Bergdhal swap with Islamic terrorists for five senior Taliban commanders was done in clear violation of the law that says he must give notice to Congress — he gave none, and Democrats were furious to the point of openly mocking the president.
Senator Diane Feinstein is Chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and took none too kindly to Obama’s czarist unilateral action on Bergdahl (link).
Said she, in response to a question about whether she was comfortable with John Kerry’s assertion that the five Taliban commanders would be closely monitored after their release:
Well it’s hard to be comfortable when you haven’t been briefed on the intricacies of carrying out this agreement.
Here she is openly disdainful of mr. Obama’s arrogance and go-it-alone actions, and she said this and much more in many media outlets. In fact she joined the rest of us in openly calling Barack Obama a liar: when the host asked her about administration claims that Congress had been briefed (another White House lie), she pierced the veil and proclaimed:
That isn’t necessarily true.
Is there any doubt that Obama has gone too far, when high ranking Democrats stop joining him in re-telling his Big Lies?
Third, it is a damning admission by mr. Obama himself that he is a failed leader. By saying that the entire Congress does not matter when it comes to the exercise of political power in Washington, and that he will “go-it-alone”, he is saying that he has no influence and no skills as a leader.
Which is poetic, because kings throughout history have often been spectacularly unfit for their roles as leaders of nations, and survived in their positions through capricious uses of raw power, often without due process and without any checks and balances.
This is precisely why we have the Constitution government that we have: the Founding Fathers knew life under kings and knew thousands of years of the history of despotic terrorization of peoples, and they wanted none of it.
Who would have believed that in 2014, the last, best hope of earth would be in the grip of exactly the kind of man the Founders despised.
