On occasion I remind my Liberal friends and family that we, the American people, and our government, chose voluntarily to walk away from total world domination in 1946. That’s right, by the end of WWII, the Russian army was in shambles, Europe was bombed to smithereens, imperial Japan had unconditionally surrendered, and of course Nazi Germany had been destroyed several times over. The United States military was fully intact, and if anything getting stronger by the day — the only fighting force that could say that at the time. Oh, and did I mention that we alone possessed the atom bomb?
If we had wanted to, we could have annexed the known world and added about 100 stars to our flag.
But we chose not to.
At this point, friends begin wondering “WHY”?
And I give my favorite answer, which seems glib and even silly but I actually believe it to be completely true: we Americans are not interested in empire, but rather are interested in flipping hamburgers and hotdogs on our backyard barbecues while our families and neighbors chat about nothing in particular. We have our land from sea to shining sea and not much need for anything more.
They say Americans have a short memory, and this is very true. Add to this that most Americans, for better or worse, just don’t care about what’s going on “over there”. We just want to be left alone to pursue our hobbies and tend to our families.
Speaking of barbecuing, this weekend was one of the best in a long time for flipping burgers and enjoying life, but I couldn’t shake an ominous feeling…
We have a president who just freed the top five Taliban commanders in exchange for an American soldier who voluntarily turned himself over to the enemy and proceeded to consort with that enemy. Fellow soldiers in his unit have reported that Taliban bombings of their positions became more accurate after Berghdahl’s disappearance.
Within days of his disappearance, says Buetow, teams monitoring radio chatter and cell phone communications intercepted an alarming message: The American is in Yahya Khel (a village two miles away). He’s looking for someone who speaks English so he can talk to the Taliban. <source>
According to Army Sgt. Evan Buetow, the team leader of Bergdahl’s unit:
I heard it straight from the interpreter’s lips as he heard it over the radio. There’s a lot more to this story than a soldier walking away. Following his disappearance, IEDs started going off directly under the trucks. They were getting perfect hits every time. Their ambushes were very calculated, very methodical, very suspicious…
noting that Bergdahl knew sensitive information about the movement of U.S. trucks, the weaponry on those trucks, and how soldiers would react to attacks.
Bergdahl’s known desertion five years ago was enough for Democrats in Congress to oppose any prisoner swap each time they were consulted, and Barack Obama knew this. But mr. Obama did the swap anyway, ignoring Congress and senior members who are Democrats, no less.
The week before Obama’s Bergdahl infamy, the Obama administration outed the CIA station chief in Afghanistan. It is widely accepted that this was done “by mistake”.
From CNN on May 27th:
The White House accidentally revealed the name of the CIA’s top intelligence official in Afghanistan to some 6,000 journalists. <source>
When you take these actions and add to them Obama’s Benghazi treason, where four Americans were murdered and the Ambassador dragged through the streets, and Obama’s release of over 2,000 illegal aliens who had been imprisoned for serious crimes, you have to conclude that Barack Obama is actively, willfully, working against the United States.
From CBS News in March 2013:
After weeks of denials, the Obama administration acknowledged Thursday that it had, in fact, released more than 2,000 illegal immigrants from immigration jails.. The director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, John Morton, told a congressional panel Thursday that the agency had actually released 2,228 people from immigration jails over the course of three weeks… <source>
Barack Obama’s regime is a real live nightmare of destruction, proceeding day by day, in plain sight, and operating from inside the White House, while we all mill around like so many cows grazing on grass and chewing our cud.
This is what the end of the American Experiment looks like, and you only have to ask yourself one question: do you feel lucky?
Because mr. Obama is getting away with so many outrageous things that he just might put our lights out for good.
