Billionaire Ken Langone is a self-made man who walks tall, without apologies for his wealth and success.
In other words, he is an American.
Apparently he made some comments back in March that involved drawing a parallel between today’s America and the rise of Hitler and Nazi Germany in the 1930s, and is still being called out to account for such statements [link].
But as many detractors over the years have found, he is no pushover and means what he says.
His original comments were in regard to “the rising political focus on income inequality and what he saw as the vilification of the top 1 percent”.
I hope it’s not working. Because if you go back to 1933, with different words, this is what Hitler was saying in Germany. You don’t survive as a society if you encourage and thrive on envy or jealousy.
He went on to explain:
[Hitler] came to power through a totally democratic process. So I simply said that just because we’re a democracy that doesn’t mean we can’t do bad things. I simply said just because we’re a democracy doesn’t mean you can’t have bad results. That’s all. I stand on what I said.
