Sometimes pictures are more powerful than words.
I have written many hundreds of essays about the misery, destruction, and death caused by Liberal Democratic / Marxist / Socialist policies, and offered many historical facts and figures that prove the case beyond all reasonable doubt. There is no room for debate on this point — even the Pope himself, no fan of capitalism, recently said that Marxism does not work.
And yet I know that Liberals persist in their delusions: the new Mayor of New York, Bill DeBlasio, was and is a committed Communist (for real), and yet he won the election.
This from the New York Times:
The scruffy young man who arrived in Nicaragua in 1988 stood out. He was tall and sometimes goofy, known for his ability to mimic a goose’s honk. He spoke in long, meandering paragraphs, musing on Franklin D. Roosevelt, Karl Marx and Bob Marley. He took painstaking notes on encounters with farmers, doctors and revolutionary fighters. Mr. de Blasio, who studied Latin American politics at Columbia and was conversational in Spanish, grew to be an admirer of Nicaragua’s ruling Sandinista party, thrusting himself into one of the most polarizing issues in American politics at the time. <source>
The Sandinistas were Marxists.
Still not convinced? Again from the Times:
When he was asked at a meeting in 1990 about his goals for society, he said he was an advocate of “democratic socialism.”
Where will DeBlasio’s class warfare and punishment of the wealthy take New York?
No one has a crystal ball, but we have this….a 1981 photograph from a collection recently discovered and published through Time Inc.
This is one of the previously unpublished images shot by Christopher Morris. The accompanying article had this caption:
TIME contract photographer Christopher Morris‘ previously unpublished images of New York’s subway in the 1980s show us a world long gone. <source>
But is it a “world long gone”?
Or is it a world coming back to a New York neighborhood near you, as Bill DeBlasio wages ware against success in the city he now leads?
The Liberal always thinks that his or her good intentions will bring about more good things for everyone in society: more jobs, more fairness, more “equality” (usually of outcomes), more wealth, more security, more freedom.
But the road to hell is paved with good intentions, or should I say Liberal intentions. And hell is coming towards us right quick, as a plurality of voters ignore thousands of years of collectivist nightmares and hand the keys to our freedom to the likes of Barack Hussein Obama and Bill DeBlasio.
In this photo, also from 1981, a woman is bravely riding the New York subway despite its disgusting and dangerous environs:
I find this to be poetic, because a majority of women voted for Barack Obama, whereas a majority of men voted for Mitt Romney. Women voted this way despite the unavoidable, inconvenient truth that a society heading towards socialism and bankruptcy is a society that will fail to protect women, in particular.
As wealth declines, and as access to health care declines, and as freedom declines (through NSA spying on citizens and continual abridgment of private property rights), women will suffer disproportionately.
I lived in New York City in the 1980s, and the 1990s, and I know first-hand the difference between the political philosophy of the left, as personified by David Dinkins and now Bill Debalsio (even more so), and the political philosophy of the right, as personified by Rudolf Giuliani.
During my time there, the city went from a cesse pool to a shining city on a hill, where even Times Square became safe enough for families, the Disney corporation, and billions of dollars of investment that enriched the lives of ALL New Yorkers.
If you are a Liberal, do you understand that your views lead to decay and decline?
Is there any doubt in your mind?
And are your ready to suffer at the hands of the thugs you have placed in power, who will destroy everything they touch, and bring your world down and down and down?
I only wish those of us who know better could be sheltered from your insanity, but no: when I ride the subway in a year or two from now, I will be in the thick of your mess and being made to suffer another of your moral crimes.
For the willful ignorance of history, and the conscious repetition of failed policies, is a moral crime.
And you are guilty.
UPDATE: I just re-read an old essay I wrote called Inside the Liberal Mind: Urban Decay and Resignation, and realized that it also addressed the cycle of death and resurrection in New York City (specifically the death brought by Liberals and the resurrection brought by Giuliani). Allow me to quote myself:
The Liberal is the arsonist who congratulates himself on sounding the alarm, indulges himself with a front row seat to the horror, blames others for the blaze, and then declares the fire inevitable and uncontrollable.
