And so the concept of self-deportation is truly being killed off by the 2012 election result, with Senator Rand Paul now endorsing a “path to citizenship” for illegals and using phrases like “…we aren’t going to deport….”
“Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport” the millions already here, the potential 2016 presidential candidate told the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into becoming and being taxpaying members of society.” <source>
Once again, forced deportation has always been a fake issue, as proven by large, voluntary exoduses of illegals from Colorado, Arizona, and Alabama when those states began to enforce immigration laws. Self-deportation is very real, and still possible if our nation had the political will (but it does not, any more than a smoker has the will to stop smoking).
Republicans at this point have dramatically altered their rhetoric on this issue, and maybe even their policies, and therein lies the big question: what is really going on here?
My hope is that the often-repeated quid-pro-quo of “Closing the Border” in exchange for allowing 15 million illegals to stay here is a real thing, because closing the border has never truly been implemented in any consistent way, and if it ever is, we might yet remain a sovereign nation.
The Kentucky Republican said for him to support such an approach, a stronger border must come first, and Congress must agree that border security has improved.
“In order to bring conservatives to this cause, however, those who work for reform must understand that a real solution must ensure that our borders are secure,” Paul said.
The path to citizenship he envisions would come with other conditions, too, that would make it long and difficult for illegal immigrants to travel.
Yes, “OTHER CONDITIONS”, and this is the key to whether our nation will plunge itself truly and finally into the abyss of anti-sovereignty.
Is Rand Paul smart like a fox? Please god let it be so.
