For those who support the millions of non-assimilating law breakers who infiltrate our country on a regular basis and believe Arizona’s pending law is the equivalent of a “Nazi regime”, I have one simple question: Do you also consider Customs and Immigration to be a Nazi regime, and should we therefore dismantle and remove the Customs and Immigration officials at international airports around the United States?
For anyone who has traveled by plane internationally, you know that when you re-enter the United States you must wait in line to see an immigration officer (to determine where you were, why you traveled, what’d you do while in a foreign country, etc.) and then must wait in another line to see a customs official (to determine what you are bringing into the country, whether cash, goods, agriculture, animals, etc.). This process often feels like an interrogation of the country’s own citizens:
Immigration Officer: [Looking at passport] “Where did you go?”
Immigration Officer: “Why did you go there?”
Citizen: “I was on business”
Immigration Officer: “What kind of business?”
Citizen: “Um, I import pencils”
Immigration Officer: “Pencils?”
Citizen: “Yes, pencils”
Immigration Officer: [Pauses. Looking suspiciously. Thinking. Hands back passport. Waives citizen through]
Then it’s off to the Customs officer, who reviews your “Declaration” about what you are bringing into the country. If you purchased more than $800 of goods, you must pay a tax right then and there, on your purchases. Your luggage is subject to full search if the officers want to see for themselves what you’ve brought with you.
Finally you are allowed into the airport lobby and are free to go about being a U.S. citizen. I FULLY SUPPORT THIS VITAL PROCESS and the officials conducting it are true patriots protecting us all.
So again, I ask you, you who support illegal trespass throughout the Southwestern United States: do you feel that U.S. citizens and other visitors who step off planes at airports should be free to just stroll on in to Los Angeles, New York, and other cities without having to show who they are or where they’ve been or what they’re carrying with them? Free to just step into a taxi and off they go? Or should they have to go through the Customs and Immigration process just described?
Which is it?
