Let’s take a tour of Federal government-run agencies and entitlements and remind the dim-witted, whose heads are in the sand or up their own asses – what we can expect from Obamacare. Today’s tour stop: VA Hospitals.
VA Hospitals are run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, a Federal agency. A few years ago the horrible conditions found at the Walter Reed medical center became a national story, when – SHOCK – it was revealed that the Federal government is a very bad manager of health services for our nation’s heroes.
Here is a heartbreaking, but common, account from an article in the Washington Post:
Stories of neglect and substandard care have flooded in from soldiers, their family members, veterans, doctors and nurses working inside the system.
…the room swarming with fruit flies, trash overflowing and a syringe on the table. “The staff sergeant says, ‘Here are your linens’ to my son, who can’t even stand up,” said Karen, of Brookeville, Md. “This kid has an open wound, and I’m going to put him in a room with fruit flies?” She took her son to a hotel instead. <Washington Post 3.5.07> <sasoc emphasis>
Let’s focus on that last line: “She took her son to a hotel instead.” And of course paid for the hotel out of her own pocket (does anyone believe she was reimbursed by the government for the bill?). Which is how we are all going to try to cope with Obamacare: if you want immediate medical attention, you will have to pay cash to private physicians (cash you will never see again as it is not covered under government insurance), and if you can’t afford it or can’t find a doctor willing to break the law, you’ll wait on line. And wait. And wait. And we’ll watch the American experiment of equality of opportuntity turn right back into Feudalism, in which the King and his courtiers get the best of everything while the rest of the population subsists as best they can, scrambling for the foul droppings of the entourage as it passes by.
“…I went to the hospital chaplain to get them to issue blankets and linens. There were no nurses. You had wounded and injured leading the troops.”
There were no nurses…
The Founding Fathers created the United States for the express purpose of transcending this monstrous feudal system, believing that living as the subjects of a monarch with no opportunity to improve one’s lot was worse than death.
Reyes suffered third-degree burns on his leg when a nurse left him in a shower unattended. He was unable to move himself away from the scalding water.
But of course it isn’t just Walter Reed: VA hospitals across the country have devolved into a disgusting mess.
A review by the Department of Veterans Affairs of 1,400 hospitals and other veterans care facilities released yesterday has turned up more than 1,000 reports of substandard conditions — from leaky roofs and peeling paint to bug and bat infestations — as well as a smaller number of potential threats to patient safety, such as suicide risks in psychiatric wards. <Washington Post 3.27.07>
Those of sane mind know from experience that the Federal government is a terrible manager of just about everything, and the sasoc will continue this tour for the insane who are in need of remedial education. Meanwhile, the Federal Court challenges and political movement to oust the forces of fascism from Congress will continue in earnest, for that is the will of the majority of the people and thy will be done.
